A strike is one form of employee action in a collective dispute.
It cannot be organized arbitrarily. Conditions provided for in the regulations on resolving collective disputes must be met.
A strike is a last resort, used after previous stages of dispute resolution have been exhausted.
During a strike, an employee does not perform work and therefore generally does not receive remuneration for the duration of the strike. For this reason, trade unions maintain so-called strike funds from which they can – according to rules adopted by the given union – financially support strike participants.
A special form of strike is a solidarity strike, which is undertaken to support another occupational group or employees who are in a dispute but cannot themselves exercise the right to strike. Its goal is not to conduct the participants’ own dispute directly, but to show support for the employees or occupational group affected by the dispute.
Important: Participation in a strike and the organization of a strike must take place in accordance with legal provisions.
