Group dismissals – the role of the trade union

Trade unions play a particularly important role when an employer plans large-scale employee dismissals.

The union can conduct consultations with the employer regarding planned dismissals.

The objectives of such actions may include:

  • avoiding dismissals,
  • limiting the number of dismissals,
  • mitigating the consequences of dismissals for employees.

As part of negotiations, the following may be considered:

  • more favorable severance pay,
  • additional benefits,
  • training to facilitate finding a new job,
  • other employee support solutions.
