The National Labour Inspectorate (PIP) is the institution responsible for supervising and monitoring compliance with labour law, particularly regarding wages, working hours, annual leave, health and safety, and the legality of employment. PIP also offers a free legal advice system. Any employee can contact PIP with questions or problems such as unpaid wages, incorrect overtime calculations, failure to grant annual leave, lack of required medical examinations or health and safety training, or the use of a civil-law contract (such as a contract of mandate) in conditions proper for an employment relationship.
Inspectors have the right to carry out inspections at workplaces, impose penalties, and notify other authorities. It is important to remember that PIP does not replace the court. An employee can therefore also pursue their rights before a court. District Labour Inspectorates operate in major cities and can be contacted directly.
